Bio
Yana Volkova graduated from Odesa I.I. Mechnikov National University (Ukraine) and obtained her PhD in Political Science in 2018. Her PhD thesis focused on Turkish nation-building and Turkey’s kin-state policy. As a participant of the Horizon 2020 project titled “Knowledge Exchange and Academic Cultures in the Humanities: Europe and the Black Sea Region,” she investigated the correlation between politics and knowledge flows among different European countries. Since 2022, she has been working as a visiting scholar at Queen’s University Belfast. Her current research interests encompass nationalism, nation-building, and discursive construction of national identity. Her ongoing project as part of the British Academy fellowship examines the process of Russian extraterritorial nation-building in the context of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
