Bio
Amy Benstead is a Senior Lecturer in Fashion Management based within the Faculty of Science and Engineering, University of Manchester. Her expertise lies in ethical and sustainable supply chain management, with a particular focus on labour injustice, transparency and modern slavery. Drawing on professional experience in international sourcing, including her previous role as Senior Merchandise Manager for Li & Fung in Istanbul, where she oversaw apparel production for major UK retailers, Amy’s research bridges supply chain expertise with real world social impact.
Her work champions a shift toward human centred supply chains that prioritise and value workers, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. She collaborates with industry, policymakers and standards bodies, contributing to guidance from the British Standards Institution (BSI) and the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) on organisational responses to modern slavery (in BS 25700 and ISO 37200). Most recently, she led a Leverhulme Trust funded project on worker voice in Leicester’s garment engaging workers, industry actors and community organisations to inform fairer and accountable supply chain practices.
