Bio

Christine Lehnen is a novelist. She is the author of twelve books, several essays, award-winning short fiction and the occasional poem. She has also written for film, television, and international broadcasting. As a Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at the University of Hamburg, she thinks about writing and reading as practices of attention, and understands attention as the unique expression of our artistic intelligence. She works across disciplines to launch hands-on projects that foster attention, creativity, stories, and writing and reading, which are essential to our wellbeing, the happiness of our communities, and the resilience and success of our democracies. She researches contemporary literature and has published in Textual Practice, Rethinking History, Literary Theory, and with Routledge. In her spare time, Christine volunteers with the Orwell Foundation and supports emerging writers through her work for the Orwell Youth Prize.
