Bio

David Harris is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Exeter, leading research at the intersection of theoretical and computational cognitive science and real-world application. David initially trained as a teacher, before completing his MSc (2011-2012) and PhD (2014-2017) at the University of Exeter. His work advances neurocomputational models of human perception, investigates how we interact with extended reality technologies, and develops methods to enhance training and learning.

David has held prestigious fellowships from the Royal Academy of Engineering (2018-2020) and the Leverhulme Trust (2022-2025). His research has been applied across defence and security, healthcare, and sport, addressing complex challenges in decision-making, skill acquisition, and performance optimisation. Through collaborations with industry and government partners, he translates cognitive science into practical tools that shape policy, improve human training, and drive technological innovation.
