Bio
G.J. Melendez-Torres is a Professor of Clinical and Social Epidemiology at the University of Exeter, where he leads a programme of research that is methodologically intensive and policy relevant. This research addresses some of the most intractable modern issues our health systems face: resource allocation in the NHS, supporting evidence-based, economically efficient adoption of new technologies; child and adolescent health, addressing growing inequities in children’s life chances arising from unequally healthy school environments; and domestic violence, providing evidence for strategies to address the major driver of gendered inequalities in health, which costs the NHS £66 billion annually.
G.J. is a registered nurse by education and vocation, and has been at the University of Exeter since March 2019. At Exeter, he leads the Peninsula Technology Assessment Group and the School for Public Health Environments Research at Exeter, in addition to an extensive portfolio of postgraduate teaching.
