Bio
Sadiq Bhanbhro is a Senior Research Fellow at Sheffield Hallam University. He is an interdisciplinary researcher specialising in medical anthropology. By integrating anthropological and sociological theories, practices, and methods with public health research, teaching, and policy development, Sadiq brings a unique perspective to their research and teaching, which focuses on global public health, health inequalities, equity, diversity, and inclusion in research, policy, and practice. Additionally, Sadiq addresses issues related to gender-based violence, particularly honour-based abuse, and the social determinants of health. In this research, he adopts an intersectional approach, emphasising social justice and employing ethnographic and participatory methods to explore public health problems and propose practical solutions.
With over 17 years of experience, Sadiq’s work has had a global impact beyond the UK, reaching countries such as Indonesia, Pakistan, Kenya, and the Philippines. Sadiq’s research has significantly influenced policy development, evidenced by his submissions to the UK Parliament’s Women and Equalities Committee and the UN Special Rapporteur for Violence Against Women and Girls.
