Bio
Chi Ying Lam is a researcher-practitioner specializing in music education and community music. Her research explores how music can foster community development, particularly in healthcare, and interdisciplinary collaborations. She is dedicated to supporting migrant and marginalized communities, using music as a tool for social inclusion and empowerment. Chi Ying is particularly interested in the ethical use of AI in music and education. Her work includes investigating inclusive learning approaches, the impact of cultural contexts on music engagement, and practices for integrating participatory arts in various settings. She also focuses on the role of cultural policy in shaping access to music education. Chi Ying is a Lecturer in Community Music and Social Justice at the University of Southampton, Deputy Director of the Southampton Centre for Music Education and Social Justice, and co-runs Little Bean Theatre, promoting cultural diversity and language preservation.
