Occupation: Professor of New Testament and Ancient Culture at University of Glasgow

My motivation for joining the UK Young Academy was to be able to engage with diverse individuals from across the UK in order to make a positive impact.

Bio

Sean’s research specialises in looking at how Jewish authors in the Hellenistic and Roman eras adopted and adapted the dominant culture’s literature and genres, recently publishing Greek Genres and Jewish Authors: Negotiating Literary Culture in the Greco-Roman eras (Baylor University Press, 2020). Sean is currently researching ancient education, specifically how minority cultures engaged with Greek pedagogical practices and intellectual pursuits.

Sean has been part of the British Academy Higher Education Policy Development Group since 2015 and was a key contributor to ‘Theology and Religious Studies Provision in UK Higher Education’ (published by the British Academy May 2019). He is a founding member of the JISC Digital Research Community Council and, as part of Trinity College, is involved in ministerial training and curriculum development for the Church of Scotland.
