Bio

Richard’s goal is to tackle complex global sustainability challenges such as food and energy insecurity. Bridging different sectors, disciplines and stakeholder groups is key to his work, and the overarching question guiding his research is: how can we achieve even greater socio-economic and environmental benefits from renewable energy initiatives in addition to low-carbon electricity? Currently, Richard is researching agrivoltaics in East Africa – hybrid energy-agriculture systems that deliver a triple-win for the food, energy and water security in a climate change-resilient way while also creating livelihood benefits for agricultural communities. He has a BSc in Biology, MSc in Clean Technology and PhD in Biology and environmental science. Before embarking on a research career, Richard worked as an environmental engineer. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking, cycling, bouldering, squash and scuba diving.
