Bio
Dr. Dareen Assaf investigates equity challenges in higher education at Sheffield Hallam University’s SIRKE Institute. Leading research on international academics at risk, she examines transition barriers from doctoral to postdoctoral positions while exploring career progression pathways for academics navigating transnational contexts. Her PhD research on female underrepresentation in university leadership has informed her current work on inclusive doctoral education through the EDEPI project. Formerly an academic in several Syrian universities, Dareen brings international perspective to UK higher education policy and practice. As a Global Talent visa holder and Cumberland Lodge Fellow, she contributes to discussions on social mobility and academic inclusion. Her commitment to knowledge exchange extends beyond research through community work and supporting asylum seekers. Dareen’s expertise in academic development, gender equity, and international education makes her a valued voice in creating more accessible educational pathways.
