Bio

Abdalrhaman Mohamed Koko is a materials scientist currently working at the National Physical Laboratory, where he spends a lot of time breaking things – on purpose – to understand how materials behave under stress. He is originally from Al Goled, Sudan, and started his academic journey with a BSc back home. After a few years working to fund my studies, he completed an MSc at Manchester, then went on to do a PhD at Oxford, looking at how tiny cracks form and grow in metals.
Along the way, he has been a Junior Dean, set up a library to share stories from underrepresented communities, and picked up a few research grants. Abdalrhaman also edits Wikipedia, mentor students, and plays chess (not very well, though he enjoys it). He cares about making science more open, practical, and inclusive.
