Member since 2023

Occupation: Assistant Professor at University of Cambridge

I am enthusiastic about working collaboratively with like-minded people that come from a range of backgrounds, disciplines and professions, and about being part of an exciting new Young Academy that aims to improve the world we live in.

Xavier completed a BA in 2003, and a PhD on magnetic shape memory alloys in 2008, at the Physics Department in the University of Barcelona. He works on the thermal properties of materials, focusing on phase transitions involving structural, electrical and magnetic degrees of freedom. Possible applications include environmentally friendly cooling and heating, and to this end he launched a start-up called Barocal Ltd. He is a Fellow at Churchill College.
