UK Young Academy joins ALLEA
The UK Young Academy is delighted to announce that we have been elected as a member of ALLEA, the European Federation of Academies of Sciences and Humanities.
The UK Young Academy is delighted to announce that we have been elected as a member of ALLEA, the European Federation of Academies of Sciences and Humanities, becoming the eighth Young Academy to join this pan-European network and its 61st member.
Established in 1994 and bringing together 61 academies from 40 countries across Europe, ALLEA operates at the interface of science, policy, and society, advocating for the role of science as a global public good and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration.
Sandeep Sandhu, UK Young Academy Executive Group representative and Co-chair of the International Working Group, said:
“The UK Young Academy is delighted to join ALLEA and become part of a vibrant community of academies working together to strengthen the role of science and evidence across Europe.
This is an important step in strengthening our international engagement and ensuring early-mid career voices from the UK are part of shaping science and policy discussions.
I’m proud of the work that has gone into making this happen. Membership opens up new opportunities for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and collective action on shared challenges.
We look forward to contributing the perspectives of early-career researchers and innovators, and to building new collaborations that support excellent research, international exchange, and the responsible use of knowledge to address shared societal challenges.”
Currently it is the most comprehensive umbrella organisation of academies in Europe, spanning disciplines from the humanities and social sciences to the natural and life sciences, and is widely recognised as a trusted source of expertise for policymakers and the public.
Championing collaboration between early-career and senior professionals across all sectors and disciplines has always been central to what we do and promote. Indeed, since our foundation in 2022, we have worked to create spaces for open dialogue across career stages and disciplines, locally, nationally, and globally.
Joining ALLEA’s growing network of Young Academies is a meaningful step in amplifying that work across Europe, and in ensuring that early-career perspectives are part of the continent’s broader international discourse.
We’re grateful to ALLEA’s membership for welcoming us, and to our senior partner academies for the support that made this possible.
As part of our new membership status, the UK Young Academy will send a delegation to upcoming ALLEA General Assembly and public conference, which will take place in May 2026 in Warsaw, a unique platform for dialogue across borders, disciplines, generations, and sectors.
