The International Working Group was established in 2024 to oversee the international activities and profile of the UK Young Academy, working to establish the Young Academy’s international strategy and support the achievement of its global aims and objectives.

The Working Group works to identify international organisations, networks, and meetings relevant to the UK Young Academy, and to establish guidance for international interactions on behalf of the membership. It assesses and responds to requests for international participation and collaboration, and works to build meaningful partnerships with organisations and networks across the globe.

International networks

The UK Young Academy is a member/ affiliate of several international networks, including:

Young Affiliate of the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP)

The InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) is the global network of science, engineering, and medical academies working together to provide independent expert advice on scientific, technological and health issues. With a membership of around 150 academies representing more than 30,000 leading scientists, engineers, and health professionals across over 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, Asia, Oceania, and Europe, the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) plays a vital role in advancing evidence-based solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges.

Affiliated member of the International Science Council (ISC)

The International Science Council convenes global scientific expertise to inform and influence action on issues that matter to science and society. In 2022, the International Science Council (ISC) recognised the unique value of platforming and supporting early career scientists when it launched a membership campaign offering affiliated membership to all eligible organisations of young scientists.

Member of ALLEA, the European Federation of Academies of Sciences and Humanities

Established in 1994 and bringing together 61 academies from 40 countries across Europe, ALLEA operates at the interface of science, policy, and society, advocating for the role of science as a global public good and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration. In Spring 2026, the UK Young Academy became the eighth Young Academy to join this pan-European network and its 61st member.
