Bio
Nicola Boydell is a Lecturer in Social Science and Public Health at the University of Edinburgh, within the Centre for Biomedicine, Self and Society. Her research sits at the intersection of medical sociology, critical public health and healthcare improvement, focusing on the design and improvement of sexual and reproductive health services. Driven by a commitment to engaged research with people who use and provide health services, Nicola’s work explores how healthcare services can better meet the needs of diverse populations. With expertise in qualitative and participatory research, she collaborates with communities and people with lived experience, healthcare professionals and policymakers to consider how to co-create better healthcare ‘solutions’. Nicola’s work has had a real-world impact in shaping the ways in which abortion care services are delivered in Scotland. She is passionate about bridging the gap between research, practice and policy to create impactful, real-world change in sexual and reproductive healthcare.
