Andrew Jupp is an Associate Professor and Royal Society University Research Fellow (URF) in the School of Chemistry at the University of Birmingham, researching small-molecule activation and sustainable catalysis by main-group elements. He leads a talented group of postdoctoral researchers and PhD, MSci, and undergraduate students, who are passionate about solving real-world problems with fundamental science.

Andy obtained his Masters (2008-2012) and PhD (2012-2016) from the University of Oxford under the supervision of Professor Jose Goicoechea, and carried out a Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship with Professor Doug Stephan at the University of Toronto (2016-2018). He subsequently won a Veni grant as part of the Dutch Research Council (NWO) Talent Programme to work under the mentorship of Professor Chris Slootweg at the University of Amsterdam. He started his independent career at Birmingham in July 2020, and his group’s work has been celebrated with various awards, including the Royal Society of Chemistry Frankland Prize.
