Haitao is an internationally recognised researcher in the transport field, honoured with a prestigious UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship. Haitao’s research focuses on simulation, machine learning, and digital twinning approaches for scenario testing and optimisation of transport systems. Their work provides critical data and digital tools to improve traffic management, reduce emissions, enhance transport services, and support evidence-based policies and data-driven interventions.
Understanding the complex, multifaceted challenges in transport that call for interdisciplinary collaboration, Haitao has led the establishment of the Transport AI Innovation Centre (TRAICE) at Loughborough University as the Inaugural Director. Leading a team of more than 80 academic staff from all nine of the University’s Schools, alongside a vibrant community of PhD and postdoctoral researchers, they steer the Centre in developing deep digital technologies that drive forward disruptive dimensions of future mobility: automation, electrification, connectivity, shared mobility, and active travel.
