The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Working Group is responsible for identifying, communicating, and prioritising issues and concerns related to equity, diversity, and inclusion across the activities of the whole membership, and working towards identifying and achieving the UK Young Academy’s goals for EDI.

The Working Group works to review UK Young Academy policies and best practices from an EDI perspective, helping to identify and prioritise areas of EDI policy and activity development based on membership needs and alignment with the UKYA’s strategic objectives.

It acts as a spokesperson for EDI aspects of the UK Young Academy’s activities and works to actively identify EDI concerns and goals through engagement with the whole membership, through creating opportunities for discussion and feedback.

EDI statement and action plan

In 2025, the EDI Working Group published an EDI statement and action plan, setting out the UK Young Academy’s commitment to embedding EDI across its work, both within the Young Academy and through its external activities. By working to address systemic inequalities, remove barriers to participation, and amplify underrepresented voices, the Working Group aims to build a more inclusive Academy and contribute to a fairer, more equitable society.
